First Aid Training For Youth Groups

First Aid can be taught to anybody over the age of 12 in Ontario. It is important to note that youths in Ontario are not allowed to work part-time till the age of 14, unless they are babysitting (the minimum wage in Ontario is $16.55 per hour). The course recommended for any worksite with 6 or more people in Ontario is Standard First Aid CPR Level C with AED training. The Standard First Aid course is a higher level of training than the babysitter course.

Remember, having your child take a babysitter course will only prepare them to be a babysitter, your child may however prefer to work in many other common youth industries, such as:

  • Retail Sales Associate

  • Food Service Worker

  • Dog Walker/Pet Sitter

  • Tutor

  • Gardener/Landscaper

  • Delivery Driver/Courier

  • Library Aide/Assistant

  • Lifeguard

  • Ticket Salesperson for Events or Attractions

  • Grocery Store Clerk

We would like the youths of Ontario to have all doors open to them. Taking on a part-time job as a teenager has many benefits that build independence and teach responsibility and confidence. Some of the other benefits of having a job as a teenager include helping teens avoid depression and teaching a strong work ethic, along with other valuable life skills.

Having your child take a Standard First Aid CPR level C with AED course with Holmes Medical Training will help to prepare them to work in any industry. It may also boost their hiring potential and put them in line for other part-time jobs, helping them build their future career prospects.
