Managing Heat Stress While Working at Heights

Summer brings the challenge of working at heights in high temperatures. At Holmes Safety Training, we equip you to handle these conditions safely. Here’s how to manage heat stress effectively:

Heat Stress Hazards

High temperatures can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Combined with physical demands and inadequate hydration, the risk increases, especially when working at heights.

Recognizing Heat Stress Symptoms

Watch for:

  • Dizziness

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Confusion

If you experience these, seek shade, rest, and rehydrate immediately.

Control Measures

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink water and electrolyte-rich drinks throughout the day.

  2. Wear Appropriate Clothing: Choose lightweight, breathable clothing, use a wide-brimmed hat and place a wet bandana under the hat (cooling bandana)

  3. Apply Sunscreen: Use high SPF sunscreen and reapply as needed.

  4. Take Regular Breaks: Rest in shaded or air-conditioned areas and follow work/rest guidelines.

Working at Heights

Combining heat stress with working at heights increases the risk of falls. Proper training and precautions are essential to mitigate these risks.
